Nyhavn: The canals of Nyhavn - Amalienborg, just northeast of downtown Copenhagen, are dotted with historic wooden ships and tour boats, and the quayside is a great place to enjoy a cocktail and watch the silhouettes of ships against the sunset. Jazz fills the air in the evenings, and Hans Christian Andersen used to call a Nyhavn townhouse home. Amalienborg palace is a great example of Danish Rococo architecture, and dates from the 1700s.
